Jena and Little Rock

They both are similar because in both towns people protests kids seperated at schools. In both stories both sets of supporters took on racial slurs and harsh punishment. They are both similar because they both got the presidents involved. It suprised me because the Jena incodent was recent. I thought our country could come together after seeing everything that has happend in yeasrs past. I thought our country wanted to have everyone treated equal.

Meritocracy

Meritocracy does exist in our society today. People are intellegent based on how they take on a situation using their skills and abilities rather than wealth. You could be the poorest person in you neighborhood, but if you try hard enough you can accomplish so much. The video relates to this because in it, the children who were concidered superior performed the tasks better then those concidered inferior. I think the lower class children view them selves as low class, so they don't want to try harder because they assume it's always going to be the same; trying harder won't help.

I Am Poem

I am proudly one of the Little Rock Nine
I wonder how it would feel to be a white student
I hear them talking about my skin color
I see the other eight trembling in fear along with me
I want tobe accepted
I am proudly one of the Little Rock Nine.

I rpetend that they say doesn't effect me
I feel the segragation between our races
I need support from my fellow race
I worry the school will never be safe
I cry only when I am in the protection of my own home
I am proudly one of the Little Rock Nine.

I understand the past
I believe it should change
I dream we will one day be harmonious
I try to ignore the hatred
I hope they will soon accept me
I am proudly one of the Little Rock Nine.

Arlette Waldmann

Although you were so young at the time, could you understand what was going on? Could you understand why it was happening?
What was it like playing with the soldiers outside your new ajoined house?
You said in your interview "I loved being Catholic, I felt safe knowing that Jesus loved little children and took care of them." How much different do you think your life would have been if you actually were Catholic? Even during the war.
Was it hard to make so many transistions in the begining years of your life "being catholic" and then showing that you were actually jewish?
Explain how your mother and father changed there thoughts of first knowing they were Jewish, to changing to Cathlic and having to go back to Judism.

Reaction to videos

Im actually not suprised that some people took the aniciative to actually learn. Im also not suprised that these women wanted to dream and get away from reality. I think it's wonderful to have people near you during a hard time, take an interest in the same things you do.
In another vidoe I viewed, an elderly man who was a liberator in the war, James Hayes, discusses the last 10 days of the German's fighting until they surrendered. He describes what he saw; The multiple casualties he knew were going to lead to a much larger spread of disease. He knew that the bodies had to be taken out of the area.

Trial of Sacco and Vanzetti

The Trial of Sacco and Vanzetti

Ferdinado Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti were both anarchists who were convicted of murdering two men in the 1920's armed robbery in South Braintree. In the end, the two Italian immagrants were put up for execution on August 23, 1927.

South Braintree, Robbery: Four men attempt to rob a payroll company. In the end, two men were shot dead, and two others got away with handguns and a lot of cash. After hopping into another car, those guys got away with other men.

On april 9, 1927 the two men were sentenced to death by electracution.

I believe that Sacco could have been guilty due to his past "relationships" with murder trails.

Gangstaa Small Group Presentations

I learned a lot about different gangsters in the 1920's in our small group assignments. I learned (in my own project) about Charles "Pretty Boy" Floyd. He used to be a family man, til he got tired of it and ran off to get a gun; leading to him holding up a grocery store at age 18. I learned that most of the gangsters each group studied were "bad enough" to land #1 on America's Public Enemy list. That's impressive! In my own group I learned to let everyone do their part. As long as I get mine done and contributed to the groups project portion. I enjoyed doing group work as at the same time, it was completely nerve wracking for such a small project. All and all, I did enjoy learning about the 1920's gangsters.

Acrostic Poem

People were mad,
Riots were startedf because of the ban of alcohol,
Organized crime caused police to get strict,
Help stealing alcohol also leaded to jail time,
Immagrants were not excepted any longer,
Beer was illegal,
It happend after WW1,
Times changed fast and drastically,
It was as if you were in a movie,
Older women thought Flappers were trashy,
No one was allowed to drink.

Rural based,
Organized crimecreated violence,
Alcohol was still banned,
Real gangsters were forming,
Installment plan was what the government wanted,
New look on life,
Gun violence grew,

Technology changed,
Women wore dresses that were shorter then before,
Everyone had different thoughts about the changes in the 1920's,
New fashion trends were formed,
Things changed drastically,
Indifferent, is what people wanted,
Electric cars were the future,
Short skirts showed off the "flappers gams".

Evolutionism vs. Religion

During the 1930's, it was illegal to teach evolutionism. I believe that religion should not be taught in schools. I think Scopes had the right idea to teach Evolutionism instead of it. To me, with the way some kids minds "take over" schools today, talking about religion would be a 'touchy-subject' for a few people. I believe talking about evolutionism is a good way to learn about it. It is science! We learn about science everyday in school. I think handling information based on religion could make classmates think the wrong way. On the other hand, I do think it would benefit in the long run because every religion, race, ethnicity, whatever you want to call it, are learning the same facts and gaining information about something new from different religions.

Call of Duty

A lot of contraversy has sprung up with the violence and war like events Call of Duty portrays. I myself have a brother who plays this game and I think that it shouldn't be portraying the violence that soldiers actually go through in the war. Younger children like my brother, play this game and walk around like it's happening to them. My brother for instance, walks around the corner in my house and pertends to get blown up. I don't think he realizes that actual men and women could have this happen to them, he thinks it's "just a game". I don't think video games should be allowed to show war like events. I think that video games do not show the whole truth of what is happening in the war, although in some cases they are portrayed well (from what I know). I don't think it's fair to let something that is happening in real life have a reset button for the children and teens playing it. I think it gives them the idea that if they are in war, they are invinsable. In some cases however, games like Call of Duty are a "catch 22". Besides the violence and strong interpritations of war, games in general give you better hand/eye coordination. Games like Call of Duty, if played by a soldier were to play this game allow the soldier to "warm up" to what they are about to go through. At the same time however, it also reminds the soldiers that have left combat what they went through. In general I think Call of Duty has pros and cons. All and All, I feel like this game is innapropriate and unfair to those who serve our country.

Movie Imperialism

Inglourious Basterds is a movie that portrays imperialism. This movie is based on WWII and shows the control of a Nazi group in france. Imperialism means the policy or practice of extending a state's rule over other territories and or an instance or policy of aggressive behaviour by one state against another. In the movie, the Nazi soldiers plan on taking down the entire Jewish community. One by one they go through each house, finding some hiding and some straight out in the open and demolish every single one. Some run, most are found and killed harsher then before.
Young Jewish refugee Shosanna Dreyfus just watched a Nazi group murder her entire family, she was the only one who got away without being killed. A few years later she plans her revenge. Knowing that every "high-end" nazi is going to the theater to watch the premier of a movie, she plans the perfect attack. The event catches the attention of the "Basterds" (a group of Jewish-American soldiers). With the plan in action, they persue to defeat the Nazi nation by burning down the building.
Shosanna Dreyfus "gets close" to a few soldiers just to catch a sneak peak of what they are actually doing. After all is done, her plan pulls through as she demolishes an entire theater or Nazis.

Mr. WikiLeaksToMuch?

"Could become as important a journalistic tool as the Freedom of Information Act." - Time Magazine
Wiki leaks insists they provide an inovative and secure way for anonymous sources to spread information to their writers to be published to the world. WikiLeaks priority is to spread information they think the world should know about; to publish the original source of material and news stories to the families and friends of the person to blame for doing something they view as wrong. They want the world to see evidence of the truth.

Wiki Leaks, to me, is showing too much yet just enough. The information is valid and should, in some cases, be known about in the commen world... not just the army or person involved. In this case, seeing a video about how the people who are supposed to be HELPING out country, make a game out of a shooting is heart renching. I think however, we as americans should know how our country is being defended. It is one thing to think that someone you're looking at could be carrying a gun to harm someone and or himself, but it's another story if you shoot them and bash them for what you thought they are. I wonder if the information we are seeing shows the government that they should probably change the way things are being taken care of? In this situation, I believe, we could have swarmed the area and taken the men down in a different way. We could have searched them for weapons or bombs before shooting them ourselves. They also took it to another level by shooting a civilians just trying to her. Could this situation harm our "friendship" with outher countries if they got a hold of the video? Or would they support our attacks on innocent people?

To me, WikiLeaks is a good source for information if they show information that is nessasary to show. Regardless of being hurtful for some people it is showing them the truth behind our actions. I don't think they should show personal individual information about each and every soul, but I think it is good to see what out government is doing and how they handle business if we American's "keep our cool" when we find out. I believe this site is one of the only ones showing what really is going on. I believe if this site continued on, our country would better it's self in some ways.

Treatment of a prisoner

Finding ways to treat a prisoner could either be very difficult or very easy.If the prisoner listens to what he is told, it can be easy to distingush where the potential bombs are and where they are not. If the prisoner refuses to listen you have multiple options. First we'd send a translater to the scene to translate anything we couldn't understand. Then we'd bring in a specilized K9-Unit to help search out anything illegal. If nothing seems to go as planed, a long with more questioning, we'd use a more harsh for of punishment. These individuals would suffer conditions of  intense mental and physical torture.

Roaring Twenties

The roaring twenties were the "cat's meow". Lots of things gangsters thought were "apple sause". All this gave me the "Heebie Geebies". I didn't know a single "darb" then. You ask who's the"big cheese" of all this? It was the women. Nothing was "berries" at first. All the "molls" were mad that the recreated women were taking there thunder. This one girl told me a story about how a "Hotsy Totsy" had a nasty set of "gams". She walked into the joint like a "bearcat". They said it wasn't "copasetic" to have a women of such quality dress like that. Apperently her boyfriend "upchucked" his "giggle water" as he started at her chassy.
