Jena and Little Rock

They both are similar because in both towns people protests kids seperated at schools. In both stories both sets of supporters took on racial slurs and harsh punishment. They are both similar because they both got the presidents involved. It suprised me because the Jena incodent was recent. I thought our country could come together after seeing everything that has happend in yeasrs past. I thought our country wanted to have everyone treated equal.

Meritocracy

Meritocracy does exist in our society today. People are intellegent based on how they take on a situation using their skills and abilities rather than wealth. You could be the poorest person in you neighborhood, but if you try hard enough you can accomplish so much. The video relates to this because in it, the children who were concidered superior performed the tasks better then those concidered inferior. I think the lower class children view them selves as low class, so they don't want to try harder because they assume it's always going to be the same; trying harder won't help.

I Am Poem

I am proudly one of the Little Rock Nine
I wonder how it would feel to be a white student
I hear them talking about my skin color
I see the other eight trembling in fear along with me
I want tobe accepted
I am proudly one of the Little Rock Nine.

I rpetend that they say doesn't effect me
I feel the segragation between our races
I need support from my fellow race
I worry the school will never be safe
I cry only when I am in the protection of my own home
I am proudly one of the Little Rock Nine.

I understand the past
I believe it should change
I dream we will one day be harmonious
I try to ignore the hatred
I hope they will soon accept me
I am proudly one of the Little Rock Nine.
